SYTYCD - Top 20

First, some thoughts:
  • I've been very excited for this evening. I liked the auditions this year. I just love this show. And I'm proud to say that I've been watching since day one.
  • Cat Deeley is so pretty. I want to push her down.
  • I was not ready for Mary's laugh. Or scream. She is so loud. And she has horse teeth. I'm just sayin'.
  • I love the way SYTYCD does the voting. Bottom three couples in the vote have to dance for their lives and then the judges get to send a guy and a girl home. It changes to a different set up part way through the season. They have a similar voting setup on America's Best Dance Crew. I really think AI should change their voting next season to something along these lines. It makes it so the popular and the talented contestants have a chance.
  • I'm interested to see if the dancing lineup follows the same pattern as the AI lineups - where it isn't a good thing to go first.
And now, the dancing:
Rayven Armijo & Jamie Bayard - Hip Hop
Meh. It was alright. I wasn't such a fan of the choreography. The pant dropping was not cool. It made me miss Shane Sparks. Especially because I watched America's Best Dance Crew on MTV earlier today.

Susie Garcia & Marquis Cunningham - Smooth Waltz
Beautiful lights. Great routine. It really was a tough one and I was impressed with their lines. I hope they do okay with the voting. Waltz is a rough one to draw.

Kourtni Lind & Matt Dorame - Jazz
I love Mandi's routines. The table routine from last season was one of my favorites. Kourtni is one of my early favorites and she danced much better than Matt, I thought. I agreed with Nigel's comments. Matt needs to grow a personality.

Chelsea Traille & Thayne Jasperson - Cha Cha
Everyone is getting so much better at ballroom. Now, since Thayne is from Utah, I can say with some confidence that he has probably taken some classes. It's a pretty popular pastime in the Beehive State. Fun routine and they were fun to watch.

Chelsie Hightower & Mark Kanemura - Contemporary
I like Chelsie and I think Mark has a fantastic sense of humor. His solo during Vegas week was awesome. Mia is their choreographer - lucky kids. Okay. I loved that. Mia is the bomb.com. What a great routine. Especially for the first week. I thought they both did a great job, but Chelsie was beautiful.

Kherington Payne & Twitch - Broadway
This is Twitch's competition to lose, I think. I think he is adorable and he has been working so hard and I just can't wait to see how he does. Tice choreographed a routine to "Too Darn Hot" from Kiss Me Kate. Fun routine. Ugh. Mary is so loud. I'm glad they did so well.

Comfort Fedoke & Chris Jarosz - Jive
Miss Hip Hop dancer can jive! What a great routine. I love the music and they are having a great time and doing really well. This season is going to be awesome. I loved the attitude hand in the middle. I actually laughed out loud when she did that.

Katee Shean & Joshua Allen - Hip Hop
I like Joshua a lot. I am not so much a fan of Katee after the show last week. I hope I like Napoleon and Tabitha better on this routine. Their first routine is the only one I didn't love so far. But I did like this one. Great story with the boy leaving for Iraq and great choreography. Loved the music. ("No Air" by Jordin Sparks & Chris Brown) They danced it well too. Katee actually kept up with Joshua on the hits. Very, very good. One of my favorites tonight.

Jessica King & William Wingfield - Tango
I absolutely love Will. I think he is my favorite besides Twitch. I'm not sure if Jessica's huge grin is appropriate for tango. Anyone? It seems a more intense dance than a smiley dance. Jessica missed a pose - she lost her balance and kind of wobbled. Will is great though. What a stunning dancer.

Courtney Galiano & Gev Manoukian - Disco
I love a Doriana Sanchez disco routine. They are so much fun, and it seems that Courtney and Gev have great personalities. Great music - "Boogie Wonderland." Love it. Fantastic lighting. Oh, and the routine is a blast to watch too. Nigel is a wet blanket. It wasn't my favorite of the night, but I liked it.

Seriously. This season is going to be fantastic if tonight is any indication.

After watching the whole show, I do think they stack the lineup in similar fashion to AI. Looking back at the dances, the first two or three were the least memorable for me. It will be interesting to see if that reflects in the voting.

Who am I voting for?
Chelsie H. & Mark 1-888-TEMPO-05
Twitch & Kherington 1-888-TEMPO-06
Katee & Joshua 1-888-TEMPO-08
Jessica & Will 1-888-TEMPO-09

Who are you voting for?

I'm not sure why I haven't watched this show before. I guess I'm a little slow. I voted for all the people you did, except the tango couple. I didn't like Jessica so I guess I didn't notice him because I was not liking her. Oh well.

Your faves were also my faves, with (maybe) the exception of Jessica & Will. I actually loved Will, but Jessica was not great, IMO. But I hope they make it through because I want to see him again.

Molly - You need to notice Will. He rules.

Michelle - I don't think Jessica was great either. I was purely voting for Will. I think they'll get a better dance next week since they were in the bottom 3.

Ok, I have had a crazy past couple days and finally watched this today! (It felt like forever to me at least.) I agree with your top four EXCEPT (dun dun dun) Jessica/Will, only because of Jessica. I do like her. Just didn't like her in the tango. I REALLY like Will. But my favorites were definitely Mia's contemporary, "Twitchington's" broadway, and the second hip hop. Good stuff!! Love this show!
