18 Months Old

G-Man,

It's the 18th (for 5 more minutes) and you are 18 months old today. This is a magical birthday for you. Well, really for your dad and I.

You're officially going to Nursery tomorrow.

We've been in a couple times for practice and we've been counting down the days as we've chased you around the church hallways for the past 7 or 8 months. It means we can go to Sunday School again. And I'll be able to attend Relief Society.

But it also means you're another month older. I can hardly stand to look at pictures from when you were brand new. (It does help a little to look at new pictures of you. You're pretty cute.)

It's still so much fun to hang out with you. You have been saying "hi" to everyone you see. Some people laugh and say "hi" back. And some people just look away. I hope you keep saying it though. It's important to be friendly. And you still jabber like I know what you are talking about and we are having a normal conversation. The best part is whenever your dad or I ask you a question in conversation, your usual response is "yes!" So, we try to make up funny questions and see if you'll still answer "yes!" You don't always fall for it.

You still love to be outdoors, though it's getting too cold to stay out for long. This makes you unhappy. You see, you're developing quite a strong will lately. On the verge of disobedience. When your dad or I call and you pretend not to hear us. We know you're faking - suddenly you can hear us when we ask about something you want. Like a cracker. Or your monkey blanket. And you've taken to flopping down on your bottom when I take your hand and try to walk you in a different direction. I'm not enjoying that trick right now. Today I had to put you on my shoulders to get you back to the car after you were throwing rocks in the lake and I was taking pictures.

But you liked being on my shoulders too. And most of the time, you're a really good boy.

You are also becoming an excellent runner. You can almost outrun me. My exercise has a new purpose now.

Because I want to make sure I can always go outside and play with you. Especially to throw rocks in the water. You really love it.

Love,
Mom

Those pictures are great Macy! 18 months is a wonderful milestone, but also the start of the terrible twos!

Happy 18 Months, Little Guy. Can't wait to see you in December--but I'm sure glad I get to see all these pictures of you.

He is so darling, and what a beautiful head of hair! I notice those things now, because even though my son is only 3 months younger than yours, you'd think it would be more like 6 or 8 because he has very little hair. It makes him look very young.
