Thoughts at Spinning Class

Spinning bike
(a.k.a. physical torture device)

I arose at the bright and early time of 5:15 this morning to go to my first spinning class. A brief rundown of my thoughts during the class:
  • Ouch.
  • How does this stupid bike work?
  • Padded biking shorts suddenly seem like a good idea. And they seemed so wrong before.
  • I didn't know I could sweat this much.
  • Ouch.
  • The girl two bikes over had sweat in puddles on the floor underneath her. I guess I have something to shoot for.
  • This music is lame.
  • I'm getting a good workout and I couldn't have done this two weeks ago.
  • Seriously. Ouch.
  • Getting up early can be nice.
  • Standing up on a bike was never so welcome. I think all the body parts I sit on have fallen asleep from the concrete bike saddle I'm riding on.
  • I just drank 40 ounces of water during one exercise class.
  • Glad I came, but ouch.
I'm going to add it in to my regimen. What regimen, you ask? I set a tiny goal after my visit to the Beehive State and having a conversation with my SIL Emily. I decided that I would exercise at least 30 minutes Monday-Saturday. No excuses. Find a way to get it done. My first goal was to do this for 3 weeks. I am starting my third week today. It's going well. I'm excited. It was time for a lifestyle change. I'm doing everything I can to make this one stick. I have a long journey ahead to lose the pregnancy-weight-that-really-isn't-pregnancy-weight-but-overeating-while-pregnant-weight. I already lost more than the weight that I can blame on G-Man. The rest of this I can blame on Moe's queso. And Boston Market macaroni & cheese. And McDonald's. And Dunkin Donuts bagel & egg sandwiches. And those evil KFC mashed potato bowls. (I can't even eat those things now, but hoo-boy did I love them while I was pregnant!)

That's called COMMITMENT!!! I'm impressed. Keep up the good work. Exercising on a regular basis is hard work, but is totally worth it.

I'm sorry thoat KFC Mashed potato bowl sounded disgusting (I guess, I'm grateful ; )

Is this at the YMCA? I haven't tried spinning, but my SIL says it's a great workout. I loved this post. I've lost my "pregnancy" weight pretty much, but am annoyed that what's left is so out of shape;) There is work to do. Maybe I'll try spinning since jogging in this humidity is torture.

I've always been so interested in the spinning/biking thing. Some ladies in my book club eat, drink, and pray spinning. Your post is exactly what I think it would be. Ouch. And body parts falling asleep, and hard, and ouch.

But, I love your regimen. I too had a moment about 4 weeks ago where I decided if I really want to lose the baby weight, I had to start working out Mon-Sat. And I have. It's hard, but once you're in that 3rd week, it does become habit and actually starts to make you feel better, even if numbers are barely budging on the scale.

Sorry for the long comment! Good luck with it all!

i have a love/hate relationship with spinning, too. i promise that the butt only hurts the first one or two workouts, but it never fails to make me sweat like a man.
come over and join my exercise challenge (i just posted on it). exercising 6 times a week for 90 days. you'll have a head start on me!

You are the BOMB!!!!!!!!!!!
Total commitment getting up so early. I can't wait to get back to the YMCA, I hope I can be as cool as you I have to say that I think padded shorts are a good idea, plus they are oh so very stylish.

What a cute family! Man, that bike looks painful. Ow. Thanks so much for coming by my blog and for posting the ice cream comments. I'm so glad you liked it!

5:15! You're crazy! But awesome workout. I love spinning and totally understand the "ouch" factor. It gets better after a week. Don't get bike shorts, they don't really help - you just have to become a "hard bum"!

Keep it up!

Yvonne - Luckily the KFC bowl sounds horrible to me too. Now, at least. But it certainly was delicious when I was pregnant. With root beer to drink.

Becca - Yes, the YMCA. They usually have three classes a day at various times. The humidity in that spinning room may rival MA summer humidity though.

Stacie - I am trying not to worry about numbers, but to build this as a habit. Always easier said than done, but I'm trying.

Michal - I'm in!

Emily - No, you're the bomb.

Prudy - I have to go to the bike classes, in part, because of your recipes. :)

Dana - You were my spinning inspiration in the first place.
